Jimmy Bondoc
Biography
Jimmy Bondoc is a not an average musician . This fact will be acknowledged as true by anyone who would have had the chance to watch Jimmy’s music videos or live performances. Most artists are known to be very insecure about them and would like to be taken seriously, just as they do themselves. However, Jimmy seems to be a contradiction to this typically ‘starry’ behavior.
This talented musician likes to interact with his audience. He chats with the crowd and makes fun of himself as well, at times. He has a light-hearted side to his personality that translates in his approach to life, in general.
It’s interesting to know that Jimmy didn’t actually start his performing career as a singer. He wanted to become an actor. While in school, he worked in plays with Dulaang Sibol and Ateneo Children’s Theatre. After he graduated, Jimmy decided to test the musical scene. He even recorded some songs as a band member of Essence. However, Jimmy soon realized that he wanted to pursue a career as a solo artist.
It was towards the end of 1992, that Jimmy penned the lyrics of, soon to be his chart topping hit single – Let Me Be The One. Jimmy recorded the song and sent a copy of the song’s CD to the hit radio station Wave 89.1.
According to the story doing the rounds, Jimmy had to wrap the CD in a crumpled piece of paper that was put together with scotch tape. The CD lay unnoticed until one day the sound engineer handed the song CD to the popular RJ (Radio Jockey) Eric Perpetua. Amused by the packaging of the CD and impressed by the lyrics, Eric showed the CD to the station manager, Joe D’Mango. It was Joe who decided to air the song on his radio and the song zoomed to #1 position on the radio station and stayed at that spot for a surprising six weeks. The rest, as they say is History!
Jimmy, currently hosts his own radio show called Piano Talk on Wave 89.1 and had also released another single, The Man I Was With You, which stayed on the charts for 11 weeks!
Jimmy Bondoc is definitely not an average musician!
