and gone. But there is one singer that clearly remains standing on top
of the rest. Well, it is none other than the lead rock vocalist of
Spongecola, Yael Yuzon.
After few years, Yael and Gosh Dilay remained in the lineup while the two other members were replaced by Christopher Cantada and Erwin Armovit. Erwin was the former guitarist of Rampqueen, which is the sister band of Spongecola. Yael’s career started early, though. His popularity being the lead rock vocalist of the band has earned him many credits and awards as well. He and his band mates came up with a self-titled EP in the last quarter of 2003. This contained five original songs namely, “Saturn,” “Cigarette,” “Jeepney,” “Lunes,” and “A Tear.” These extensive songs have exposed Yael’s ability to adjust his vocal range—his skill to shift from mellow to scream tone without losing its touch. This unique style has captured many music lovers, and their albums are selling begin to sell like hotcakes. With their EP, he was able to get more shows, exposures, and concerts from all over the country.
Yael also managed to sing a version of Madonna’s “Crazy for You,” which then became such a popular hit. Who wouldn’t get mesmerized by his amazing sultry voice? The favorable response from the public further led to larger opportunities for Yael and his band mates. His melodic dexterity is blended perfectly with Armo’s eccentric guitars and Gosh’s bass lines. Chris’s wonderful drum beats, meanwhile, harmonize perfectly with Yael’s powerful and unique voice. Although he is now considered as one of the top band singers in the country, he never forgets to remain humble and happy with his career right now—that’s why he’s still sticking with Spongecola.
