Marian Rivera

Ola to Marian Rivera

Marian Rivera Entertainment critics may say that Angel Locsin ’s loss is Marian Rivera’s gain, but the latter doesn’t really care. With her alluring charm, strong character portrayals, and mass appeal, she’ll make her own name in show business.

Marian Rivera Gracia was born on August 12, 1984, in Madrid, Spain. Her father is Spanish, while her mother is pure Filipina. Both of her parents are pursuing their career in that European country. She doesn’t have any sibling.

She practically grew up in Madrid, where she learned to love the parks, kids, and lots of birds. However, at aged 12, she was brought to the Philippines to study. She took up BS Psychology in De La Salle University. Currently she’s staying with her grandmother Francesca in Cavite, but goes back to Madrid each year for a nice vacation.

Because of her stunning mestiza looks and appeal, she was often invited by a lot of talent scouts and managers to audition in a number of shows. Nevertheless, because Marian prioritized her education, she begged off. It was only until she graduated in 2005 that she gave acting a serious thought. She first acted in TV commercials for ads like Skin White, a beauty skin product, and Skyflakes, a popular Philippine biscuit.

Later on, she met Popoy Caritativo, who became her talent manager. Her first acting job was entitled Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, alongside Ehra Madrigal and Camille Pratts. It was produced by GMA 7, to which she’s also under contract as of press time. She played Clarisse, a woman who’s looking for his father while hurting her one and only half-sister unknowingly. She also found a loveteam in Oyo Boy Sotto, who played Sig in the mentioned teleserye. When the show ended in 2006, she moved on to play a number of notable character roles such as Carissa Crismundo, one of the six orphans in Pinakamamahal and a maltreated woman in Muli. It was in the latter that Marian got her first acting bruises courtesy of Odette Khan. Odette was so immersed in her kontrabida role that she slapped Marian’s face too hard.

Marian Rivera also ventured into more mature dramatic roles such as in Super Twins, a fantaserye topbilled by Jennylyn Mercado and Nadine Samonte. She played their mother as well as the better half of Manuel, played by Dennis Trillo .

But the biggest role to date would be her portrayal in Marimar, a once popular Latin soap opera headed by Thalia. It wasn’t simply a breeze for her. First of all, she had to really audition for the role where she was made to deliver a few lines from the script, act together with Dingdong Dantes who will be her leading man, and danced in a two-piece bikini. Moreover, there were rumors that she was only second choice, next to Angel Locsin, who later jumped ship to ABS-CBN. A lot of people too are thinking that she couldn’t do any justice to her given role.

Marian Rivera was left undaunted. Even if she hardly had any memory of the original version, she researched more about her character over the Internet and honed her dancing skills under the expertise of Geleen Eugenio. Today, Marian is still elated for the very warm response people give to Marimar, who scored a high rating of more than 25 percent on its first day.

The Filipino-Spanish actress hopes to someday realize her dream of coveting an acting award, just like her idol Sharon Cuneta . But with the obedience, patience, craftsmanship, and beauty Marian exudes, it wouldn’t be long before her dream comes true.{mos_ri}
