Jackie Rice Is Bad Girl No More

As they say, nothing can put any good girl down. For Jackie, the road to stardom may have been tough; nevertheless, it doesn’t mean she wouldn’t get there.

Jackie Sobreo Rice, or Potpot to her close friends and family, was born on April 27, 1990, at Dinalupihan, Bataan. She is of American-Filipino ancestry as her father was an American named James Rice while her mother is Vicki, a Filipina.

Ever since Jackie was already enamored with the world of show business that when Starstruck, a talent-based reality TV show, called for an audition for its second batch of stars she immediately took the chance. Pretty, charming, and very talented, Jackie, who was barely 15 then, became one of the finalists for Starstruck Season 3: The Nationwide Invasion.

Like any other reality TV show, Jackie, along with the others who made it, were made to perform different kinds of challenges to test their skills in singing, acting, hosting, and dancing. However, even before the show ended with flying colors, Jackie was caught in the middle of controversy.

It happened during the sixth week of the show. Director Louie Ignacio, one of the show’s council members, revealed that somebody from the survivors (contestants) had decided to open a very confidential file on one of the show’s computers. They then informed the others about what kinds of challenges are waiting for them. Jackie was implicated along with Jana Roxas and Sara Larsson, who was eliminated in that same week. However, despite the latter being already out, the issued didn’t die but only became worse with a lot more crying bouts and shocking revelations. Both Jackie and Jana accused another fellow survivor named Arci Muñoz as a total liar. What happened didn’t affect the final results of the show where Jackie emerged the ultimate female survivor along with Marky Cielo, first placer among the males.

Jackie Rice then started acting in a couple of GMA TV shows such as Love to Love Season 10, where she played the role of Claire and in season 1 of Fanastikids. She was highly popular portraying Armea in Encantadia. However, she was slapped with a 6-month suspension by Ida Henares, who represented GMA’s Talent Center. It turned out that there were frequent reports of Jackie being seen partying wildly, smoking, or drinking beer. She also earned a negative title of “pasaway.”

The experience was a terrible blow for her. She felt like all the money she earned and all her hard work she invested all lost in a single instant. She lost all her regular shows and she was reduced to mere guests in TV shows like Maynila and Nuts Entertainment. Thankfully, she was given another chance to revive her career.

Jackie Rice hopes that in time she’ll be able to finish her school and get a college degree perhaps in Arts or in Hotel and Restaurant Management. A good education will be perfect in achieving her dreams which is to become a successful person someday. In the meantime, she’ll spend her almost 18 years of existence trying to be a good girl to friends and her family—people she values the most.
