Philippine television and film actress Diana Zubiri has enjoyed an extensive career despite being only 21 years old. She has repeatedly earned a top place in FHM Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World, holding a place in the top four since 2003, and has seven films and eight television shows or series’ to her credit. She took Zubiri as part of her screen name from the Philippine clan of the same name, but is not related to them.
Diana Zubiri was born Rosemary Joy Garcia on April 15, 1985. Her birthplace is Bulacan, Philippines, but she moved to Japan at age 16 to look for work in the Japanese entertainment industry. This move came after she auditioned for ABS-CBN three times and was rejected. However, she did return to the Philippines and her popularity soared. While her career was in its infancy, she converted to the Roman Catholic faith despite having been raised in the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ).
After returning from Japan, Zubiri appeared in three movies in the Philippines. However, it was a photo shoot in 2002 for FHM Philippines magazine that brought her into the limelight. In the photo she wore a bikini for the photos and posed on a busy highway overpass—called the EDSA-Shaw flyover—in Mandaluyong City. This stirred up some controversy on decency and angered a local politician.
The mayor of Mandaluyong City, Benhur Abalos, filed charges against Zubiri and the magazine, citing grave scandal . Zubiri and the magazine’s manager (Jojo Gabinete) apologized, and the mayor withdrew his charges. However, by then Zubrini was well known for the incident, and went on to sign on for more film and television projects.
Since then, Diana Zubiri has appeared in some erotically flavored movies and signed on with Global Media Arts Network in the Philippines as an artist. There she has had roles in various television shows and serials, and today continues to participate in the movie scene as well. She has served in many different roles from sexy movies to comedies, showing her versatility and flexibility as an actress.
