Carmina was born Maria Carmina Muñoz Villaroel on August 17, 1975. Her parents, who were both of Spanish descent, used to live in Laguna, Philippines. She had a brother named Paolo, who is a gym instructor and was one of the few judges in the Fit n Right Challenge show in ABS-CBN.

Mina, as is fondaly called by friends, started out doing commercials. Her first was for a chocolate drink together with Bea Lucero. Later on, she appeared as the sister of Richard Gomez in one of the most popular Jollibee commercials of all time. It was also this TVC that she caught the attention of Mother Lily Monteverde and Douglas Quijano. The Regal matriarch got so intrigued with the pretty face and what it can possibly give more to the audience. It wasn’t long before Mina found herself in boob tube and in the big screen.

One of the earliest movies she did was Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa, together with Maricel Soriano , Gabby Concepcion, and Lorna Tolentino. The came the horror flick Tiyanak, Regal Shocker: The Movie, and Balbakwa, to name a few. However, it was during the time she was launched as one of the Regal Babies, together with Aiko Melendez and Ruffa Guiterrez , that her name became one of the most talked about. They were launched in the movie Underage 2.

Though she was usually typecast as the sweet, bubbly teenage girl, she also appeared in several note-worthy and truly challenging movies, such as in Kapag Langit ang Humatol in 1990 and Wating in 1994, where she played opposite Richard Gomez . In both films, she received a nomination award for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively. She also acted in various television shows, starting at Oki Doki Doc, Esperanza, Recuerdo de Amor, Narito ang Puso Ko, Mulawin, Darna, Majika, Marimar, Mga Mata ni Anghelita, and Codename: Asero.

Carmina was once married to Rustom Padilla, when she was barely 20 years old. They first met in a plane flight where Rustom was once a flight attendant while Carmina was one of the passengers. They met again when the former was already an actor, and they became an item for a very long time. Nobody really knew of their marriage not until they broke up and had it annulled.

Today, Mina is now living with Zoren Legaspi, with their twins , Maverick and Cassandra. They are currently living in Quezon City, where they own a 300-square house, complete with a beautiful yard for their children. If she’s not tending the household, Mina is busy hosting Sis, with two of her closest friends, Gelli and Janice de Belen,  and Dayoff.
