Jake Cuenca: A Good Bad Boy
Jake Cuenca, or Juan Carlos Cuenca, was born and raised in San Jose, California, on December 30, 1987. He is of pure Filipino descent. He is a commercial and print model as well as a TV and movie actor, who became famous in Click, GMA’s youth-oriented show. He then moved to ABS-CBN once his contract with the former expired. Later on, he became a member of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent center, under the tutelage of Direk Johnny Manahan, or Mr. M. He’s also studying in an exclusive school for boys called PAREF Southridge. Jake has two other siblings.
His first taste of stardom began when he was 9 years old. A talent scout got interested with his strong mestizo looks and decided to included him among the roster of models of Cosmo Modeling Agency. He then later appeared in a number of endorsements, both in print and TV, for popular brands like Globe Telecom, Coke, and Safeguard.
Douglas Quijano and Neil de Guia, big-name managers of other celebrities decided to handle Jake Cuenca’s career when he was 14. He later auditioned for Click in 2003, and later became one of the Batch 2 members, together with Angel Locsin , Chynna Ortaleza, and Richard Gutierrez . He played the role of Tryke.
Eventually, he left the show and Click was discontinued. He ventured deeper into drama genre, playing a variety of portrayals in a number of GMA soap operas like Love to Love, Forever in My Heart, and Hanggang Kailan. In 2005, his star shone even brighter when he was cast to become Kahlil, the sole heir of Karylle’s and Dingdong Dantes’ characters, in Encantadia. Majika, another GMA fantaserye, became another acting training ground for Jake, as he drew swords and worked with magic.
Commercials are typically known for broad gestures and exaggerations of movements by actors. Jake, however, wanted to settle for something subtler. Thus, he participated in acting workshops conducted by renowned directors Joel Lamangan and Peque Gallaga. He also learned other acting techniques such as proper motivation.
Today Jake found his new home in ABS-CBN, where he became a cast in a string of top-rated television shows. He was welcomed by the station by being featured as one of its talents in its Christmas station ID in 2006. He delivered a very stellar performance in Sana Maulit Muli, where he was Brandon, an envious brother of Travis played by Gerald Anderson .
Jake was also very vocal of his attraction and admiration to Sarah Geronimo , but he didn’t pursue it. Nevertheless, they were cast together in one of Lovespell’s episodes entitled Sweet Sixty. Currently, he’s exclusively going out with Roxanne Guinoo .

Every Sunday he performs with other Coverboys, namely, Rafael Rosell, John Lloyd Cruz , Victor Basa, Sam Milby , and Zanjoe Marudo , in ASAP Mania. He is Andrew Angeles in a movie adaptation of Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos.
Jake is a certified heartthrob, having graced a number of women’s magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Girlfriend, and X-ray, where he initially shed his good boy image to something more adult and sensual.
