Carlo Aquino is one of the best male actors to have come out of the
ABS-CBN Talent Center. Born in September 3, 1985 at Quezon City he
became known in playing a serious, deep-thinking teen in a host of Star
Network shows geared for growing adults. Now at 23 and standing 5'7",
he is becoming one of the most sought-after young dramatic actors in
the industry.
A product of Ang TV, he started his career as part of a group of stars to appeal the young audience. He was billed in a trio together with fellow young actors
John Prats and Stefano Mori. His big break was in a dramatic role on the hit teen show G-mik and later playing a similar character on BERKS. Both shows were known to mix heavy dramatic moments on mostly light plots. Carlo Aquino’s eyes denoted a lot of emotion and expression, winning him fans and getting him noticed by more directors and entertainment critics.
He would get his own show,
Pahina, about Philippine literature that only solidified his acting skills. Because of his talent, he has worked with the best actors and actresses in the film industry, often getting awards and accolades for his work. He was part of the ensemble of the hit movie Tanging Yaman, winning the Best Single Performance by an Actor at the Star Awards (one of the youngest). He was nominated and won several awards in other critically acclaimed films like
Bagong Buwan,
Minsan May Isang Ina, and
Kahapon May Dalawang Bata. He is also best recognized by his winning performance opposite
Vilma Santos in
Bata, Bata . . . Paano ka Ginawa? He would later repeat his memorable line from this movie in a different albeit successful comedy in Tanging Ina, working with Ai-ai de las Alas.
He would continue acting in more serious roles beyond his age with TV shows like
Krystala,
Makita kang Muli, and
Sa Puso Ko, Iingatan Ka. Even in earlier projects, Carlo was known to have a good voice and a steady hand in the guitar. He would later use his musical talent on
Bituing Walang Ningning together with Carol Banawa and
Nora Aunor . His other TV credits include
Qpids,
Kaybol,
Cyberkada, and
Tanging Ina TV series. He was also a regular host and performer in the Sunday variety show ASAP.
He was previously paired with fellow G-mik alum
Angelica Panganiban and publicly admitted that they were an item but later broke up due to unknown reasons. He was also known to have been linked with another teen star, Maja Salvador. He experienced a lull in his acting career and decided to focus on music, performing with the band
Kollide. His fans would be happy to know, though, that he is back doing what he knows best in the GMA soap
Sinasamba Kita. This young actor still has much to show, and switching networks clearly did not mean a loss of talent—he has become better in his trade.
